Rainbow Dance Co. Annual Spring Concert
Audition
Rainbow Dance Co. is Arts Together’s multi-age dance performance program that provides arts training where individual expression is respected, and creative and technical ability are equally emphasized. Starting in 1980, Rainbow Dance Co. was the brainchild of Arts Together founder Lemma Mackie and is the only multi-age modern dance company of its kind in North Carolina. Rainbow celebrates the many creative voices found in children, teens and adults and comprises members from ages 10 to 70+. Younger dancers are invited to join the company after showing passion and commitment for creating, learning and performing in their Arts Together technique class. Older dancers will attend an audition where they show their technical, creative and collaborative skill set. Company members explore complex social issues through dance and are collaborative artists who contribute throughout the choreographic process.
They collaborate uniquely: a 10-year-old has the confidence to offer artistic feedback to a 50-year-old, both respecting each other as peers.
In addition to taking two to three technique classes per week, Rainbow dancers participate in the creation of one or more repertory pieces to be performed at the company's annual spring concert. Over the years, the company has nurtured the individual talents of many dancers who have moved on to pursue dance professionally, including performing with internationally known choreographers and ensembles.
